The District Department of Transportation (DDOT) has announced that the Black Lives Matter Plaza monument, which is located at 16th Street between K Street and H Street NW, is now open following 3.5 months of construction.
Dewberry, a privately held professional services firm, provided agency construction management services, including inspection, public outreach, stakeholder coordination, project signage, and reporting services. The 48-foot mural features durable thermoplastic paint on top of bonded concrete.
“Having the opportunity to support the creation and commemoration of the Black Lives Matter Plaza is a career milestone I will not soon forget,” says Dewberry Project Manager and Associate Vice President Siavosh Agahy, PE. “Critical to the success of the project was minimizing impacts to surrounding stakeholders, as well as emphasizing the importance of safety, public outreach, and scheduling. Having worked with the DDOT for more than six years, it was an honor to provide construction engineering and inspection services for this historic plaza project.”
