Brooke Martin, AIA, LEED Green Associate, NCARB, has been named an Emerging Professional of the Year by the American Institute of Architect’s (AIA) Prairie Illinois Chapter. Recipients of this award are selected based on their influence in the industry, their community, and the profession.
Martin, who has 13 years of experience, has been with Dewberry for 10 years in its Peoria, Illinois, office and supports a variety of projects, including higher education, K-12, corrections, museum, mass transit, and airport terminal facilities. As a committed member of her community, Martin serves in a number of influential roles, including president of the board of directors for Keep Peoria Beautiful, sustainable justice committee co-chair for the National Academy of Architecture of Justice (AAJ) 2018-2020 term, National AAJ emerging professionals committee member, and National AAJ social media coordinator. In 2016, Martin was named the Playhouzz Runner-up in the Global Playhouse Design Competition, where only four runners-up were selected out of 415 global entries.
She recently completed her master’s degree in architecture from Southern Illinois University (2016) where she tailored her thesis to justice architecture, net-zero energy design, and architecture’s impact on the community. Martin also earned her bachelor’s in architecture from the University of Wisconsin (2004). In addition to her many professional memberships, including the Academy of Correctional Health Professionals, American Correctional Association, AIA, Illinois Correctional Association, and the National Council of Architectural Registration Boards, she works as an adjunct professor of architecture at Illinois Central College. Martin was previously recognized with the Appreciation Award for Excellence in Service by the AIA Prairie Illinois Chapter in 2017.
“Brooke’s passion, ingenuity, generosity, and tenacity have catapulted her career, and she’s been an exemplary employee from the time she joined Dewberry,” says Dewberry Principal Doug Pfeiffer, AIA, LEED AP, NCARB. Associate Principal Tracy Coker, RID, LEED AP, adds “We’re beyond proud of Brooke’s accomplishments. She’s a stellar architect and clients speak highly of her quality and attitude.”
