Dewberry, a privately held professional services firm, has announced that Bruce Omtvedt, AIA, has been named to the editorial advisory board for Correctional News.
Omtvedt is a national leader for the firm’s justice
practice and has been with Dewberry since 2017. He has more than four decades
of experience in detention and correctional facilities, law enforcement,
government office, courthouse, mental health, and hospital inmate unit design.
Omtvedt has completed designs for more than $4 billion in construction costs,
including 38,000 secure housing beds across 85 justice projects. His primary
areas of focus include defining specialized mental health facility designs for
acute crisis, stabilization, step-down, and re-entry housing.
“I’m humbled and honored to join Correctional News’
editorial advisory board,” says Omtvedt. “This news outlet provides critical
information and updates to the justice community, including design,
construction, maintenance, and operations. These are exciting times of design
and construction approaches to correctional environments that foster positive
behavioral change and encourage interaction for re-entry success.”
Omtvedt earned an associate of applied science degree with
special honors in architectural commercial design from Wisconsin Indianhead
Technical College (WITC) (1981), completed the National Council of
Architectural Registration Boards (NCARB) exams in 1988 for licensure as an
architect, and served for over 20 years on the WITC architectural advisory board.
In addition to his involvement with Correctional News, he is an active
member of the American Institute of Architects, American Correctional Association
Facilities Planning and Design Committee, ASTM F-33 Detention and Correctional Construction
Standards Committee, National Commission on Correctional Health Care, and the
National Sheriffs’ Association.
