The Charles E. Via, Jr. Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering (CEE) and the CEE Alumni Board recently appointed Darren Conner, PE, as a member of the 2017 Academy of Distinguished Alumni at Virginia Tech.
Conner was selected based on his overall career accomplishments, including his 32 years with Dewberry, most recently in a senior management role as president of the firm’s southeast division. His selection was also based on his contributions to the profession, the community, and his service to Virginia Tech.
As president of the firm’s southeast division, Conner directs a multi-disciplined staff of nearly 500 in 20 office locations across Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Mississippi, North Carolina, and Virginia. His accomplishments include leading the company’s Corporate Accounts Initiative, resulting in a significant increase in the firm’s private-sector business. He has also been responsible for implementing the division’s growth strategy. Over the last four years, Conner has led the acquisition and integration of two Florida engineering firms, adding nearly 250 employees to the firm.
Conner is a member of the State Board for Community Colleges and past chair for Danville Community College’s Educational Foundation board of directors. He earned a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from Virginia Tech and an associate’s degree in pre-engineering from Danville Community College. Conner is a professional engineer in Florida, Kentucky, North Carolina, and Virginia.
