Dewberry, a privately held professional services firm, has announced the completion of the Del Rio Trail project in Sacramento, California. Dewberry provided construction management services for the project.
The active transportation corridor features 4.8 miles of Class I multi-use trail along an inactive railway corridor west of Freeport Boulevard and extends from south of Meadowview Road/Pocket Road to the Sacramento River Parkway north of Sutterville Road. Project features include modifications to an existing railroad bridge across Interstate 5, stamped concrete crossings, pavement markings, trail signs, lighting, mid-block pedestrian crossings, rectangular rapid-flashing beacons, drainage ditches, trail connections, a parking lot, and preservation of 23,000 linear feet of existing railroad track to help maintain the historic feel of the corridor. The trail connects numerous neighborhoods to downtown Sacramento and provides access to several bus routes.
“This trail benefits the Sacramento community in a variety of ways,” says Dewberry Vice President and Department Manager Howard Zabell, PE. “Beyond recreational space, the trail provides residents an alternate commute to schools, parks, jobs, retail centers, and neighborhoods, while supporting Sacramento’s Bikeway Master Plan.”
