Dewberry, a privately held professional services firm, has announced that it has been selected by the Women’s Transportation Seminar (WTS) North Carolina (NC) Triangle chapter as the 2022 Employer of the Year. The award was presented at the annual Go-Gala awards and scholarship event in May.

Founded in 1977, WTS is a national organization with more than 5,000 members, both men and women, with a mission of advancing women in the transportation industry. Each year, the NC Triangle chapter recognizes a firm that supports women in their careers both within the firm and the industry.

“We are honored to be recognized as Employer of the Year by such a highly esteemed organization as WTS,” says Matt West, PE, a vice president and business unit manager with Dewberry. “Our organization prides itself on the advancement of women and diversity initiatives, and we have a strong record of hiring women in key leadership roles. We’re fortunate to have women in senior-level positions across the firm, including here in our North Carolina offices.”

Dewberry’s corporate structure includes six primary executive positions, three of which are currently held by women. The firm’s nine-member board of directors also includes two women. There are more than 80 (roughly 36%) women in the firm’s Raleigh office, with approximately 9% of the 225+ member team consisting of minorities.

“We feel that Dewberry as an organization recruits, retains, and advances women,” says Mary Whitby, Vice President, WTS NC Triangle chapter. “Dewberry has also encouraged and supported WTS through memberships, sponsorships, and employee involvement at the local level.”
