Geospatial Professionals Joong Yong Park and Brant Smith Join Dewberry

Dewberry welcomes topobathymetric lidar experts to the Fairfax, Virginia, headquarters.

Joong Yong Park

Dewberry, a privately held professional services firm, has welcomed Joong Yong Park as a senior geospatial technical manager and Brant Smith as a senior geospatial analyst in the Fairfax, Virginia, office.

With over 20 years of experience in the geospatial industry in airborne topobathymetric lidar systems and developing post-processing software, Park will be working on data analysis of lidar systems. Park is joining Dewberry from ELiT Geomatics, L.L.C., where he served as the director of research and development, consulting businesses on airborne topobathy lidar systems.

Park earned a bachelor’s in oceanography (1994) and a master’s in applied geology (1996) from Pukyong National University, Korea, followed by a doctorate in civil and coastal engineering from the University of Florida (2002).

Smith brings over 12 years of experience in the geospatial industry. In his new role, he will support the topobathymetric lidar program, developments of new data acquisition and processing methods, and assist in the development of automation, efficiency gains, and data quality improvements. Smith is joining Dewberry from Teledyne Geospatial, where he served as an applications engineer, responsible for lidar data calibration and analysis.

Smith earned a bachelor’s in geoscience from Mississippi State University (2010).

“I look forward to working with JY and Brant to advance our topobathymetric lidar data collection and production capabilities,” says Associate Vice President and Senior Geospatial Technician Manager Joshua Novac, “They will be immense assets as we continue to develop new tools and methods to analyze waveform data from our Teledyne CZMIL and Riegl VQ-880-G II sensors.”
