The Metropolitan Transportation Authority’s (MTA) Long Island Rail Road (LIRR) announced that it has selected RailWorks Corporation’s New York-based transit division, RailWorks Transit LLC as the Prime Contractor, in partnership with Dewberry as its lead designer, to perform $50-million worth of upgrades to its Babylon interlocking signal system in Suffolk County, New York. Dewberry, a privately held professional services firm, will serve as the lead designer on the project, providing civil and structural engineering services.

critical piece of infrastructure in transporting individuals along Long Island,”
says Dewberry Senior Project Manager Kelly Pollard, PE. “Our team is excited to
work with RailWorks and Systra to enhance reliability and put our many years of
railway infrastructure experience to work.”

“This project brings together two best-in-class
organizations performing their specialized services for a valued customer,” says
President of RailWorks Transit LLC Ben D’Alessandro. “RailWorks has completed
numerous projects for LIRR, and I’m looking forward to another critical
infrastructure project.”

Upgrades to the Babylon Interlocking are expected to be
complete by 2025.
