When renovating any space, particularly a library, it’s essential to take these three steps:

Review

Walk through the library as if you were a new patron to see what faults you see in the branch. If it helps, conduct patron and staff surveys to see how others view your facility. It’s imperative to review research and studies to see what the current trends are and how they can impact the functions of the library.

Re-evaluating the space size and its composition can also help in figuring out what additions will work best in the location. Expanding entertainment options, technology services, and creating innovative environments are examples of how to add spice to your facility.

Keller-Library
The Keller Public Library, in Texas, was reviewed and reinvented by adding a designated teen area with cool colors, bright lighting, and functional/flexible furniture.

Renew

Renewing involves the physical appearance of the facility. Key features that can make an existing library feel new are updated flooring, walls, and ceilings.

North-Garland-Library
The North Garland Library, in Texas, was renewed through the use of custom digital wall covering, accent lighting, bold carpeting, and movable furniture in a new open toddler area.

Reinvent

Reinventing library revamps original operations and to create different vibes. Adding zest to the grounds like sculptures and fresh greenery in the courtyard can provide calm, refreshing atmospheres for reading and relaxing. Lighting and spaces that cater to certain to age groups also allure patrons to stay longer and come again. Services like express checkout and self-serve holds adds convenience to the ordinary library experience.

Create new forms of customer service and interpersonal skills with mobile displays. Providing carts can make it easier to assist patrons. Entice patrons with services that change the traditional library experience with cafes —generating more returns.

Rockwall-Library
Teens in Rockwall, Texas, reinvented Rockwall Library into a lively space they could call their ownselecting furniture, fabrics, and colors to set their area apart from the adult and children’s areas.

Fresh images can create new experiences during an ordinary trip to the library. Create a space where everyone believes a unique experience is waiting for them.
