Dewberry’s Carey Mayer, AIA, LEED AP, was recently elected to the executive committee of the Illinois Math and Science Academy (IMSA). Mayer is an associate and senior project architect in Dewberry’s justice architecture practice, based in the firm’s Peoria, Illinois, office.

A two-time member of IMSA’s board of trustees, Mayer was appointed by former Illinois Democratic Governor Pat Quinn in 2013 and by Illinois Republican Governor Bruce Rauner in 2017.

IMSA is a residential science, technology, engineering, and mathematics academy that enrolls 650 students around the state of Illinois. IMSA’s mission is “to ignite and nurture creative, ethical, scientific minds that advance the human condition.”

Mayer graduated from IMSA in 1990 as a member of IMSA’s second class. She occupies one of three private industry positions on the board of trustees, the school’s policymaking body. In her four years on the board, Mayer has participated in a presidential search for IMSA, and IMSA received its first $1 million donation from an alumnus, Steve Chen, one of the co-founders of YouTube and its former chief technology officer.

In her new role as second vice chair of the executive committee, Mayer will assist in refining the board’s agenda and continue to provide strategic direction on upcoming major initiatives. She intends to focus on the school’s Professional Field Services program, which creates STEM curriculum for middle and high schools statewide.
