Dewberry has announced that Kim Dunn, PE, CFM, a senior engineer in the firm’s Philadelphia office, was awarded Diplomate, Water Resources Engineer (D.WRE). The certification is issued by the American Academy of Water Resources Engineers (AAWRE), a subsidiary of the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE).
The D.WRE certification is the highest post-license certification available in the water resources engineering profession, and is accredited by the Council of Engineering & Scientific Specialty Boards (CESB). Those who receive the credential showcase strong professional ethics, a commitment to lifelong learning, and continuing professional development.
AAWRE’s mission is to elevate standards and deepen the body of knowledge for practicing engineers. Since the start of the certification program, more than 650 professional engineers worldwide have earned the D.WRE, including three current Dewberry employees. Several government agencies now require this certification for their projects.
Dunn has managed flood studies throughout the Mid-Atlantic and Puerto Rico, including thousands of miles of hydrologic and hydraulic analyses, as well as gage analyses and regression equations, floodplain mapping, and community outreach. She has provided training to community officials, consulting engineers, planners, and surveyors on floodplain modeling and management. She served on the Delaware River Basin’s Flood Advisory Committee Floodplain Regulations Evaluation Subcommittee to evaluate floodplain management regulations across the basin and develop recommendations to improve the synergy and effectiveness of those regulations on a regional basis.
Dunn has over 23 years’ experience in water resources. She earned her master’s degree in civil engineering from Villanova University. She has a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from the Pennsylvania State University. Dunn is a licensed professional engineer and a certified floodplain manager. She is a member of the Association of State Floodplain Managers, the Pennsylvania Association of Floodplain Managers, and the American Society of Civil Engineers.
