Dewberry has hired Nicole Gough, PWS, as a senior environmental scientist in the firm’s Orlando, Florida, office.
Gough is responsible for overseeing the acquisition of federal, state, and local environmental permits for various transportation, land planning, and land development projects from Central Florida to the panhandle. She is currently part of the project team finalizing the John Young Parkway overpass at Sandlake Road.
With more than 18 years of experience working in and preserving Florida’s unique natural landscapes, Gough specializes in the state’s wetland biology and regulatory review process. She spent almost a decade with the South Florida Water Management District performing technical reviews of environmental resource permits, surface water management permits, sovereign submerged land authorizations, water-use permits, and wetland jurisdictional determinations. For four years, she inspected and evaluated pre- and post-construction projects to determine permit compliance and performed enforcement activities where noncompliance violations were present.
Gough has also conducted prescribed burns, controlled the spread of exotic plants and vegetation, managed public-use and recreation sites, monitored vegetation and wildlife, and developed and implemented hydrologic and vegetative restoration projects. She developed hiking, biking, equestrian, paddling, and educational trails throughout the state while employed as a member of the Florida Forest Service.
Gough earned her bachelor’s degree in parks and recreation resource management from Slippery Rock University of Pennsylvania and is a certified master wildlife conservationist.
