Dewberry, a privately held professional services firm, has announced that Karen Capps, PE, has joined the firm as a senior planner in the environmental practice based in Raleigh, North Carolina.
Capps has 37 years of experience in traditional and design-build transportation engineering and design projects. Prior to joining Dewberry, she served as a design-build project engineer for the North Carolina Department of Transportation’s (NCDOT) design-build unit where she managed a multidisciplinary team responsible for the procurement and delivery of design-build projects. As a senior planner with Dewberry, Capps will be responsible for managing environmental compliance with National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) and State Environmental Policy Act (SEPA) standards for transportation, water, wastewater, and site/civil projects throughout the southeast. Additionally, she will support long-range planning projects, public and agency engagement, and resilience efforts.
“Karen has already jumped in supporting the team on a unique mix of projects, including those in the wastewater, transportation, and resilience markets,” says Beth Smyre, PE, a senior associate with Dewberry. “We’re thrilled to welcome her to the team as we continue to grow our environmental group and improve our practice.”
Capps earned her bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from North Carolina State University (1984).
