We are developing an integrated water resources approach to help the City of Plant City outline potential infrastructure improvements needed to supply utility services to future developments. Our approach will help to accommodate growth in the area while maintaining a high level of service. It will also allow the city to continue to address local and regional water quality degradation and water supply challenges. The project’s primary goal is to integrate wastewater, stormwater, reclaimed water, and groundwater into a long-term adaptive management plan that maximizes water supply and facilitates environmental benefits.

Our team is collaborating with stakeholders and facilitating workshops with local and regional partners, including the city’s planning and zoning department, water/wastewater and stormwater utilities, as well as the engineering/public works and stormwater department, the Hillsborough County Planning Department, Hillsborough County Parks and Recreation Department, Polk Regional Water Cooperative, and Tampa Bay Water. To understand future demands, we’re developing water, wastewater, and reclaimed water demand projections along with estimates of stormwater runoff volume and pollutant loading to receiving waters. Our tasks also involve the visualization of infrastructure needs when triggers, such as new customers or compliance requirements, occur. We’re creating a cloud-based Power BI dashboard to assist in connecting growth commitments and land use changes to water and sewer infrastructure needs, water quality regulations, permit compliance, and various emerging regulations. This information, along with utility infrastructure evaluations, identification of integrated water alternatives, and coordination with regulatory agencies, will allow Plant City leaders to adjust infrastructure and services proactively.

The resulting integrated water resources strategic plan will outline Plant City’s current and future development, and its water resources needs. It will also assist in managing supply, service, and environmental impacts.
